Golden Crispy Hash Browns
McDonald's Copycat Recipe
Ingredients
Golden Crispy Hash Browns
- 4 large Russet potatoes (peeled and grated)
- 4 tbsp Cornstarch
- 1 tsp Kosher salt (plus more to taste)
- 0.5 tsp Black Pepper (freshly ground)
- 0.5 tsp Garlic Powder (optional)
- 0.5 cup Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes — Grate the potatoes and place them in a large bowl of cold water. Let soak for 5 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and rinse the grated potatoes.
- Remove Excess Water — Using cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel, squeeze out as much water as possible from the potatoes. This step ensures a crispy texture.
- Season and Shape the Hash Browns — In a mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes with cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Mix well. Form the mixture into 4 flat, oval-shaped patties.
- Fry the Hash Browns — Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the hash brown patties. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy.
- Serve — Transfer the hash browns to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with additional salt if desired. Serve hot with ketchup or your favorite breakfast condiments.
