McDonald's Copycat Recipe

Golden, crispy hash browns just like McDonald's – perfect for breakfast or brunch!

1. Prepare the Potatoes
Grate the potatoes and place them in a large bowl of cold water. Let soak for 5 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and rinse the grated potatoes.
2. Remove Excess Water
Using cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel, squeeze out as much water as possible from the potatoes. This step ensures a crispy texture.
3. Season and Shape the Hash Browns
In a mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes with cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Mix well. Form the mixture into 4 flat, oval-shaped patties.
4. Fry the Hash Browns
Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the hash brown patties. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy.
Tip: Avoid moving the patties too much while they cook to maintain their shape and achieve a crisp exterior.
5. Serve
Transfer the hash browns to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with additional salt if desired. Serve hot with ketchup or your favorite breakfast condiments.
